Was Kanye doing something illegal? Probably. His cofounder, Steve Duda, also echoed his angst, retweeting a snarky tweet from Deadmau5 encouraging people to raise money for Kanye to buy Serum. Actually deadmau5 dissed Kanye for illegal downloading the plus-gin (XFER SERUM). He also appeared to have visited a Music Radar post that touted Serum as one of the best 'plugin synths in the world.'ĮDM artist Deadmau5, who cofounded Xfer Records, called Kanye out for seemingly pirating Serum. It wouldn't be the first time that I would see that, for example when AVICII did an 'interview' with FUTURE MUSIC MAGAZINE he showed his process when making a song and he add an ilegal copy of the Sylenth 1 plug-in (also a popular plug-in). Next to his Pirate Bay tab, Kanye had a tab open for Xfer Records Serum, a $189 piece of music software.
Kanye appears to be pirating a file that begins with 'Xfe.' (likely from this site). Maybe Kanye just wanted to see what this torrent thing was all about? After he limited the album to Tidal, hundreds of thousands of listeners pirated it. Kanye released TLOP on Tidal, forcing people to subscribe to Jay Z's streaming service, of which he is a co-owner, in order to listen. It certainly didn't turn away Yeezy, a multimillionaire award-winning artist who just released one of the most acclaimed albums of the year, The Life of Pablo. Maybe we haven't taken West's debt claims seriously enough (He's said he's $53 million in the red)? The Pirate Bay is a great destination for hacker adults and broke teens. Either Kanye is a hypocrite who downloads copy-written material illegally or he doesn't have the general awareness to ensure it doesn't seem like he does.
